Coaching Tip:
Drill for Success: Set and Chase
This drill improves strength to push the ball to target, moving feet to align body with the target in advance of contacting ball.
Players line up at the corners where sidelines meet 3m line and back line. Players set the ball attempting to keep the ball on the white lines. Players follow their set and rotate. Challenge: Coach calls "reverse" and the players set in the opposite direction without catching the ball. Focus: High set, square body to face where the ball is going, not where it is coming from.
Rules Trivia
Marcia Alterman, NCAA Rules interpreter, explains allowable action for balls that approach a divider curtain.
FACT OR FICTION? If Team A passes the ball near a divider curtain between two courts, one member of Team A can move the curtain while another Team A player retrieves the ball.
FICTION!! NCAA Rule 4.2.2 states: "Only the player(s) actually making an attempt to play the ball may go into a partition or move it. The ball is out of play and ruled a fault if a teammate, substitute, coach or other person moves the partition to assist play."
