Celebrating 19 Years of Excellence: The Sports Imports Classic

As the leaves begin to turn and the excitement of a new volleyball season builds, there’s a special buzz in Columbus this year. This year marks the 19th anniversary of the Sports Imports Classic, one of the premier women’s volleyball tournaments in the country. This milestone is not just a testament to the longevity and growth of the tournament, but also to the enduring commitment of Sports Imports and Ohio State University (OSU) to championing women’s sports. 

A Tradition of Excellence and Growth 

Since its inception, the Sports Imports Classic has grown into a beacon of competitive volleyball, drawing powerhouse teams from across the nation to Columbus. What began as a regional showcase of talent has evolved into a nationally recognized tournament, where the best collegiate teams come to compete, inspire, and celebrate the sport of volleyball. Over the years, we’ve seen the rise of programs that have become synonymous with excellence in the sport, including Nebraska, USC, and Oregon. These teams, along with OSU, have consistently demonstrated the high level of competition and sportsmanship that the tournament embodies.

Over the past 19 years, the Sports Imports Classic has seen numerous memorable matches and standout performances. One of the highlights of each tournament is the naming of the Most Valuable Player (MVP), a recognition that honors the athletes who have made a significant impact on their teams and the tournament. The first OSU student-athlete to receive this prestigious award was Danielle Meyer, whose performance in 2006 was spectacular. More recently, Emily Hill joined the ranks of OSU’s volleyball legends, showcasing the continued strength of the program. 

The tournament has not only been a platform for individual excellence but also a celebration of the collective power of women’s sports. Teams have consistently brought their A-game to Columbus, making each year’s tournament a thrilling spectacle for fans and a true test of skill and determination for the athletes.
